Adelphi Village, Salford

Value - £2.5bn (total masterplan scheme) | Client - Muse and ECF

Adelphi Village’s masterplan will be one of the largest Passivhaus housing schemes in the UK, with affordable homes designed to use about 90% less energy than traditional design and construction methods.

We are providing civil, structural and geoenvironmental design services on the masterplan and several residential plots at Adelphi Village, Salford. The development comprises a mix of low and medium rise affordable homes on brownfield sites.

Willohaus is the first plot on the Adelphi Village masterplan and comprises a new affordable housing development comprising 100 high-quality, one and two-bedroom homes within a five and six-storey building.

Part of the £2.5bn Salford Crescent masterplan, a 252-acre regeneration initiative being delivered by Muse, The English Cities Fund (ECF) in partnership with Salford City Council and the University of Salford.

Working with Muse, we are responsible for the civil and structural engineering design, having earlier completed the intrusive ground investigations and provided geoenvironmental services on this heavily used brownfield site.

Designed by Buttress, the homes have been designed to be Passivhaus certified, which aims to reduce properties’ energy consumption by around 90% compared to traditional design and construction methods. This is the second Passivhaus development to have been delivered by ECF and Muse in the region. The affordable and highly sustainable apartments will feature eco-credentials such as triple glazing, air source heat pumps and high-performance insulation and building fabric. The development will encourage sustainable transport options by offering a variety of transport connections within walking distance, along with storage for 100 bikes. Once complete, the project will be one of the largest Passivhaus housing schemes in the UK.

Subsequent plots on the masterplan which are currently at detailed design stage include the former ‘Farmer Norton car park’ which includes just under 100 single occupancy homes and approximately 200 apartments.

A further plot ‘Old Adelphi’ is currently at detailed design stage with demolition and enabling works commenced on site. This block comprises medium rise apartment blocks, with approximately 250 apartments.
