Celebrating 21 Years in Birmingham

Clancy Consulting marks 21 years in Birmingham, marking more than two decades of growth, innovation, and contribution to the city’s evolving skyline.

Since opening in the early noughties, our Birmingham office has grown from a small team into a regional hub of multi-disciplinary engineering specialists.

Growing with Birmingham

Our journey began in St Paul’s Square, where our original logo can still be made out if you look hard enough. After relocating twice, we now call Charles House on Great Charles Street, in the heart of the business district, our home. What started as support for blue light, public sector, and education projects has evolved into a multi-disciplinary practice of nearly 30 staff.

Today, our specialist engineering team consults on complex schemes across a wide range of sectors, including residential, commercial, healthcare, education and defence projects. Our portfolio reflects a much broader, more complex mix that demonstrates the evolution of Birmingham and the wider West Midlands regions.

We’ve helped bring to life landmark mixed-use developments in Birmingham city centre, such as the Mailbox redevelopment, and regenerative residential schemes like Gunsmith House in the historic Gun Quarter.

Alongside major schemes, we deliver smaller, person-centric projects, including healthcare gardens and children’s homes, that have a direct social impact.

Birmingham has transformed since we first opened. Our success has come from evolving with the city: moving into new sectors, embracing collaboration, going above and beyond on a technical level – all to support the growth of the wider West Midlands.

Regional growth and collaboration

The creation of the West Midlands Combined Authority and its renewed focus on cross-border collaboration has been a huge catalyst for driving continued expansion across the entire region.

Today, we support clients across Birmingham, Solihull, Wolverhampton, and the wider West Midlands. As part of a network of regional offices, our team provides services on a national level when required.

Connectivity and investment are reshaping the West Midlands. With HS2, major urban redevelopment and a growing tech sector, the region’s potential has never been stronger.”

“As we look ahead, the combination of strong local partnerships, a pipeline of innovative projects and a commitment to investing in skilled people puts the region in a powerful position.
— Mike Powers, Director

Investing in talent

Our success has been built on developing people and future leaders in the engineering consultancy space.

A notable achievement is that every member of our Board of Directors has progressed through the business. In fact, Chris Acton, CEO, began his career with us as a graduate.

The Birmingham office continues this proud tradition by offering mentoring, professional development and graduate pathways in partnership with local universities.

We actively mentor the next generation of engineering leaders through the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and the Chartered Management Institute.

As we celebrate 21 years in Birmingham, we’re not just looking back. We’re focused on what’s next: helping shape a smarter, greener and more connected Midlands.

“People are at the heart of this – from the specialists we employ and nurture, to the communities we impact on a daily basis. Here’s to another two decades and beyond.
— Mike Powers, Director
