Our CARE accredited civil and structural engineers are skilled in the conservation and refurbishment of historic buildings and architectural heritage throughout the country.

Our nationally distinguished heritage team specialises in the careful conservation and sensible refurbishment and transformation of historic buildings and architectural heritage.

Our team includes chartered civil and structural engineers experienced in heritage engineering and a Conservation Accredited Engineer under the CARE scheme.

The Conservation Accreditation Register for Engineers (CARE) has been established jointly by the ICE and IStructE to assist clients select highly-skilled engineers with proven conservation experience, assessed through a rigorous approval process. CARE is endorsed by the UK Government Department of Culture, Media and Sport, and recognised by Historic England, Historic Scotland, Cadw, the Northern Ireland Department for Communities - Historic Environment Division, and works in partnership with several architectural and surveying professional bodies including AABC, RIBA, RICS, and the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.

Our CARE accredited engineer Claudio Corallo leads our input in this specialist sector, and has assisted numerous private clients, estate managers, ecclesiastical and secular institutions, and also public bodies in conserving and enhancing the heritage significance of their historic assets, and also imaginatively transforming these to respond to current and future needs.

Throughout his career, Claudio has led transformative projects to some of the most prominent historic buildings in the country, including Westminster Abbey and Canterbury Cathedral, and his projects having been shortlisted, commended, and won RIBA, RICS, AJ, Civic Trust and AABC awards.

Our heritage engineering team approaches our projects with a pragmatic, hands-on and holistic approach, providing guidance and assistance to our clients based on our experience in successfully strategising, planning, and delivering heritage projects to the highest quality.

Our knowledge and skill-set equip us with the confidence to recommend suitable solutions, in agreement with current conservation principles, maximising the chances of smooth progress through the planning and listed building consent process, minimising the introduction of new structural elements, with positive repercussions on projects' cost and programme.

Our heritage engineering team draws regularly from Clancy's wider knowledge base in all matters relating to engineering design, construction techniques, site feasibility, etc, providing a 360 degrees approach to our projects.

Our services include the appraisal of historic buildings, advice on appropriate repair and strengthening measures, feasibility studies and options appraisal, and the sensitive design of extensions and alterations in an historic environment.

Our experience includes residential projects in conservation areas or for listed buildings, public, institutional and commercial buildings, ecclesiastical properties, historic bridges, and many others.
