Wakefield County Hall Renovation, Wakefield

Client - Wakefield Council

A Grade I Listed asset in the heart of the city that requires repairs to roofing and external fabric to make it watertight.

After decades of ad-hoc repairs and ordinary maintenance, Wakefield Council has now adopted a holistic approach to the building and brought forward a £5m+ refurbishment project.

We have carried out extensive surveys to the various flat and sloping roofs, and also assisted the heritage consultants in researching and interpreting the historic information retrieved from local archives about the fire-proof construction of the floors and flat roofs, and their current safety.

The project is the first step towards a refurbishment of the whole building, and will stop decay and open up new possibilities for the use of the building.

The project is currently deep in the investigations and options appraisal phase, and we are assisting the client in untangling the dependencies of a very complex project to package it in a deliverable form, with cost and programme certainty, and minimising abortive work in view of the next phases of work.
