Modernisation of Yare House, Norwich for Indigo Commercial. The completed scheme comprised of an additional 4th floor supported by the existing concrete framed structure. To complete the scheme, valued at £3.5m, a solar shading façade and entrance canopy was used to transform the appearance of the building.
The additional 4th floor was a lightweight steel frame structure which evenly distributed the new loading directly to the existing grid of concrete columns. Justification of the existing structure under new loadings was completed using historical drawings and supporting calculations together with investigation on site.
The project is set to become one of the first major refurbishments in the country to achieve a BREEAM rating of “Excellent”.
