A recently completed high quality refurbishment project in Central London involving both our structural and building services engineering departments. The scheme included the addition of a further storey to provide conference facilities and an air-conditioned conference room. This required an innovative approach in order to deal with the progressive collapse requirements of the existing loadbearing masonry structure. The project included steel framed as well as loadbearing masonry elements, utilising Slimflor decking to achieve storey heights consistent with what was originally a residential building. This project also involved extensive groundworks and the administration of an Archaeological evaluation. A feature of the building services was the installation of a 4 pipe fan cool air conditioning system, extensive voice, data and power distribution working within restrictions of an existing structure and fabric. The building was Grade II listed.
