Pembroke Hall was once a Community Centre, Concert Hall and Civic Centre for Salford City Council, and it was an RC framed structure immediately adjacent to the Ellesmere Shopping Centre.
Acting on behalf of a private developer Clancy Consulting acted as Civil and Structural Engineer, Building Services Engineer and Planning Supervisor, not only for the demolition of the hall and construction of a new two storey 80,000 sq.ft. retail unit, but also for the complete refurbishment of the existing shopping malls which entailed removal of escalators and replacement with travelators, re-configuration of various retail units and complete fit-out.
All works were undertaken while the shopping centre remained trading. The building to be demolished supported a roof over Victoria Square, ad temporary works were specified to maintain the roof until such time as the new structure was created. A new 30m truss was erected to support the new existing roof.
The new build areas included a large feature rooflight and also roof access and walkways for plant space. The structure was steel framed and brick clad. The overall project value is £12million.
