Des Yates
Des was responsible for opening the Birmingham office in 2004, and he currently manages the Midlands operations of Clancy. Having relocated from the Altrincham office he also maintains very close links with some Clients in the North West. He is also responsible for managing and implementing the IT strategy on a national basis throughout the firm and has a number of IT technicians reporting to him.
Des is a Londoner who went to Leeds University and stayed in Yorkshire after graduation. Working for Haiste, he gained considerable experience working overseas and then spent a number of years working for multi disciplinary consultants in the Middle East in the early 1980’s. Des joined Clancy in 1985, becoming an Associate in 1987 in the Altrincham office.
However, in 1992 Des left Clancy to emigrate with his young family to Adelaide in South Australia, where he worked for a small local engineering consultancy. However the grass was not as green as anticipated and Des returned to Clancy after a period of about 18 months, working initially in the Liverpool office, then coming back to Altrincham as an Associate and becoming a Director in 1999. He has very broad based experience in Civil and Structural engineering design, construction and management and has a very pragmatic approach to his work.
Des likes to keep fit and attends the gym on a regular basis. He loves driving has an interest in all things to do with old cars and motorcycles. He is very keen on indoor karting and as long as he does not get black flagged he will usually post a fast time. He enjoys spending time outdoors and enjoys cruising the inland waterways of Britain when the opportunity permits. As a childhood Arsenal fan the Gunners are his favoured Premiership team.
