Geotechnical site investigations are often undertaken by Clancy Consulting at the same time as an environmental assessment so as to provide a client with a cost effective site investigation strategy. When undertaken correctly and supervised by a trained engineer both site investigations need not compromise the quality of data obtained for both technical requirements.
Borehole and trial pits are often required to assess the ground conditions for foundations and this information is supplemented by in-situ field test and supported by laboratory testing. From this information bearing capacities and settlement calculations can be made to make important decisions on foundation types, depth and the need for any remedial measures.
When investigations are undertaken in former mining areas it is often necessary to conduct an investigation of possible collapsed strata associated with shallow abandoned mine workings (coal, limestone, sandstone, evaporites, fireclay etc) or shaft and adits. The investigation often follows a comprehensive desk based mining and geological study which allows for a focussed site investigation strategy to be implemented.
Clancy Consulting has Chartered Geologists with extensive mining experience who can assist in the evaluation of complex geological terrains.
The need for any remedial measures will be dependant upon qualitative information gained during open hole drilling or from more expensive core drilling. Grouting and foundation development plans are formulated from the combined desk based mining and site investigation information. The development of tender specifications for any remedial measures such as drilling and grouting or shaft infilling and capping can be developed by Clancy Consulting.
