Intermodal Terminals

Clancy Consulting have extensive experience in the planning, design, maintenance and repair of intermodal freight terminals and other rail linked distribution centres.

Clancy were lead designers for a number of the “Channel Tunnel” terminals in the 1990’s and more recently we were lead designer on a new £8m intermodal terminal in Grangemouth for TDG, where difficult ground conditions required the design of a fully piled transfer area slab and crane beams.

Whilst our expertise in railway design is limited to on site sidings we are able to liaise with Network Rail as appropriate to connect to the main line infrastructure.

TDG2 Our planning of these terminals includes selection of lifting equipment and ensuring that available road and rail space is compatible with lifting capacity to achieve optimum throughput from the available land.

The design, construction and maintenance of the heavy duty pavements associated with such facilities is an area where Clancy have particular expertise, and we are able to offer pragmatic repair solutions to difficult sites.

For further information please contact Des Yates at our Birmingham office or Graham Ellis at our Manchester office.
